UN Millenium Development Goals
At the UN Millenium Summit in 2000, the heads of state and government of the UN member states agreed upon a multilateral consensus to reduce worldwide poverty about 50% until 2015. Hence, eight
Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) had been formulated as concrete objective targets:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty & hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development
The UN Declaration about the MDGs prevails as a cornerstone in the history of international development policy and is an incentive for worldwide efforts to improve the living conditions of millions of people.
